The
epic story of the discovery and colonisation of America appears to us
today as a disordered collection of images closer to dreamlike madness
than to a real passage of history.
Despite
having a detailed description of the facts, this chaos of genocides,
heroic deeds, evangelising and inter-breeding conserves, in our view,
the mystery of the profound reasonings which influenced those times.
As
a result, no-one today feels responsible for the disasters or achievments,
however much the present day population strive to see themselves as
victims when they mistake us for the descendents of Cortés or
Pizarro.
Therefore,
after travelling, reading and getting to know people and places we find
ourselves back where we began and have chosen the lunatic patients of
Pruit to show us their own particular vision of the phenomenon through
psychodrama. And the result: more chaos.

The
Pruit mental hospital, popularly known as 'Els Xuglás' was formed
30 years ago. It is a private entity with some public sponsorship, installed
in the high plains of Collsacabra where the climate and isolation favour
the treatment of the interns.
Some of them enjoy the open routine and prefer to spend their time doing
agricultural work or cattle raising, the rest are treated through psychodrama
with very good results as you'll be able to confirm. When they are discharged
the interns leave the centre and are reinstated into society in prestigious
centres such as dramatic art centres or televised competitions. Others
simple get married and form a stable family.
The treatment develops within the framework of a rigorous training programme
lasting 5-6 months with 6-day periods of therapy and 3-day periods of
rest.
The
daily programme is as follows:
- 8.00 Darts
- 8.30 Breakfast
- 9.30 Coordination
therapy
- 10.30 Psychodrama
therapy
- 14.00 End
of Session
- 14.30 Lunch
- 15.30 Rest,
reading and walk
- 17.00 Psychodrama
therapy (personal correction)
- 20.30 End
of session
- 21.00 Supper
- 21.00 Television
and board games
- 24.00 Bedtime
The
centre has a library available to the patient from the very first day,
where he can consult any questions referring to the chosen subject of
therapy. The psychodrama which we present today has been developed over
a year with two parallel methodologies: manual dexterity (percussion)
and body rhythm (flamenco) as well as periodic visits to the psychiatric
hospital of St. Boi to stimulate the exchange of experiences between
the patients.
