DOCUMENTARY-DRAMA DEALING WITH
RESIDUAL POST-NUCLEAR LIFE
"Laetius" in Latin means something like more than life and more than
death.
The
autodestruction of humanity is something taken for granted.
Earth
is nothing more than a small planet within the enormous cosmic order
destined to produce cycles of life and at the same time destroy them.
The
sophistication of the nuclear engineers who surround us, leads us to
the inevitable conclusion that we are living the last moments of our
cycle, as we possess all we need to bring about the end. Within
the social order symptoms appear to be the same as the last stages of
previous cycles e.g.Deluge, Sodom. This gives us the right to claim
that we have found ourselves in the best position to push the button...
After
the nuclear holocaust a new form of life emerges with a certain resemblance
to present day man (on the outside). Slowly, and despite finding himself
on a sterile desert planet, Laetius, the name of this strange creature,
starts to create his own way of life and relate to his fellow creatures
and eventually he will evolve at the same rate as his terrestrial environment.
Laetius
will be the hero of the new cycle, a being exhibiting some mutations
with respect to his predecessors which turn out to be a great advantage
derived from his intimate relationship with the earth and his magnificent
adaptation to the environment.
The
actors are immensely fond of the being they have created, feeling a
great respect and admiration for him which grows as they get to know
him. Perhaps we have come across this type of experimental effect in
other cases of creators of human beings (Jekyll and Hyde, Pigmalion,
Frankenstein).
Parallel
to the evolution of Laetius and in the form of a documentary, we will
begin to understand, apart from the fundamental details of this evolution,
the deep feelings which lead the actors to give life to this new being.
