Montserrat Balmes 2002

She has been part of Els Joglars since 1983 when she joined the company during the production of Teledeum, looking after the cooking, administration and maintenance of El Llorà, the house in which Els Joglars live during the creation of new productions.

Since then her work has been present in the creation of all the subsequent shows, and always goes beyond her presence in La Cúpula and El Llorà.

According to the journalist Arcadi Espada: One of the great pleasures of my life has been being able to participate in these sessions, feeling myself to be a member of the company, off and on, but with all the rights, including that of enjoying the cooking of Montserrat Balmes. (Prologue La guerra dels 40 anys)

Ramon Fontserč writes:
It’s 9.30 in the morning, of a day, any day; the phone rings in a bedroom in a hotel situated somewhere in the peninsula. After making sure that the sound is coming from the phone, the actor manages to pick up the handset, astonishing himself in the process, since his state is frankly catatonic, dreadful. Hardly has the phone reached his ear when he hears “GOOD MORNING, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!”. The actor does not know whether to wrench the phone from the wall with all the fury of a heavy-metal rock band or to commit harikiri with the beer can from the mini-bar. What he does know, despite being more dead than alive, is that at the other end of the phone line there is a woman who became part of Els Joglars in the year of our Lord 1983; that thanks to her “tactics”, life in the house of El Llorà is as pleasant as if one were at home. The treatment is personalised, something which no matter how often they promise it, no bank will ever manage to achieve; something really cataclysmic would have to happen, unless it was the Festa Major in Rupit, before she forgot to congratulate someone on their birthday or name day. The actor hangs up thinking that at least the worst is over now, at least until next year, at the same ungodly hour.
