Studied theatre at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and at the Centre Dramatique de l'Est (Strasbourg), and corporal expression in Paris.

Formed part of Italo Riccardi’s mime company.

In 1962 he founded the company Els Joglars. His professional activity as actor, director, stage designer and dramatist has been almost wholly within this company with whom he has created some thirty works. Some of these have generated violent controversies that have involved court proceedings, political debates and attacks on the company. As a result of the performance of La torna (1977) Boadella was accused of insulting the armed forces and was imprisoned. Subsequently he staged a spectacular escape that forced him to live in exile in France for some time.
Plays such as Mary d’Ous, Àlias Serrallonga, M7 Catalònia, Teledeum, Virtuosos de Fontainebleau, Yo tengo un tío en América, Daaalí, etc., have toured in numerous European and American countries.

His satirical, tragic and yet at the same time humorous works reflect the development of a personal style that has won international recognition. They have also been spectacularly successful with the public with their mixture of investigation and popularity, tenderness and cruelty, scathing criticism and poetry.

He has acted in, and created, various TV series for televisions in Hamburg, TVE and Canal+.

Author of the books El rapto de Talia (DeBolsillo, 2000) and Memòries d’un Bufó (Espasa Calpe, 2001).
In November 2002 the first volume of his complete works was published: La torna, M-7 Catalònia, Teledeum, Columbi lapsus, Yo tengo un tío en América and El Nacional in Catalan by the Institut del Teatre of the Diputació de Barcelona. The second volume, containing the rest of the works, is to be published in 2003.

He is Lecturer in Dramatic Writing and Direction at the Institut de Teatre in Barcelona.

He has also directed the film by Els Joglars ¡Buen viaje, Excelencia!, for which he wrote the script and subsequently the novel (Franco y yo), produced by Andrés Vicente Gómez for Lolafilms.
